摘要
In a recent paper [2] one of the authors noted, without presenting a proof that appropriate variation of the stiffness coefficient in a mass-spring-damper system leads to increase of the system energy during a cycle of the motion. Some have expressed doubt concerning the validity of this claim which implies that a damped simple oscillator can be destabilized by varying the spring constant. It is the purpose of this note to present a proof.
