By the methods of questionnaire, analysis, and interviews, we investigate and analyze the current situation of the physical education in First Middle Schools of Shanghai to identify the teaching characteristics after the implementation of the new curriculum in this middle school and its significance to the physical education. The research concludes as follows: on one hand, the First Middle School of Shanghai has organized the teaching activities according to those requirements in the new curriculum but paid less emphasis on the combination of students' interest and demand, failing to intrigue their enthusiasm; on the other hand, the students in grade one all have a very positive attitude towards the PE class, which favors the cultivation of their passion and interest in sports. The First Middle School can take use of physical education to cultivate the students' hobbies and enhance their interest in sports, encouraging them to develop a sense of lifelong insistence on physical exercises; thereby playing an active role on the implementation of the new curriculum. The students can master and apply the basic knowledge of sports and health as well as sports skills and through physical education students will get better and more comprehensive understanding of the skills and knowledge. In the sports lessons, teachers ought to integrate the idea "health first" into the contents of classes to consciously develop their ability of adapting to society through physical education, which should be paid more attention to achieve this targets.
