Dimensioning and production of large composite structures for offshore and transport

The paper focus on two areas with a big potential for composite materials. The two areas have very little in common except for the composite technology and impact requirements. The first area is composite materials for subsea applications for the offshore oil industry. Such applications demand very often high strength and high impact resistance. An other area also demanding high strength and impact performance are the highly promising products for the rail industry (train fronts, coaches etc.) Each area will be covered separately except for the impact problems and production, which will be covered together. Impact resistance is given special attention.
