Cardio-oncology : a necessary partnership

Cardio-oncology (or onto-cardiology) is a new rapidly developing medical field designed to prevent and manage cardiovascular disease in cancer patients before, during and after their treatment. The growing incidence of cancers goes along with an improvement in their prognosis, at the expense of frequent cardiotoxicity linked to chemotherapy and radiotherapy. This new and growing population of patients is not currently being managed optimally and justifies the establishment of dedicated care teams with shared multidisciplinary and structured care and supervision programs. This new interdisciplinary subspeciality, medical and scientific, also generates an inexhaustible research field.
