Synthesis and characterisation of aroylhydrazone complexes derived from some piperidin-4-ones

Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes of the types [M(L-1)(2)](NO3)(2)center dot nH(2)O, [M(HL2)(2)](NO3)(2) and [M-2(HL3)(NO3)(4)]center dot nH(2)O [L-1= cis-2,6-diphenylpiperidin-4-one benzoylhydrazone (DPBH), HL2 = cis-2,6-diphenylpiperidin-4-one salicyloylhydrazone (DPSH) and HL3 = trans-3-methyl-cis-2,6-diphenylpiperidin-4-one salicyloylhydrazone (MDPSH)] have been synthesized and characterized on the basis of elemental,, electronic, IR and ESR spectral analyses and also by conductivity measurements, magnetic moment measurements and thermogravimetric analyses (TGA/DTA). The results reflect coordination of the ligands through > C=O and > C=N groups. In bimetallic MDPSH complexes coordination occurs through phenolic oxygen and amide nitrogen atoms. The powder X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that DPBH and DPSH complexes of Ni(II) crystallize in simple cubic unit lattice.
