Cooperative R&D on Standard-Oriented Technology

We have analyzed the effects of four alternative scenarios of R&D on standard-oriented technology on firms that engage in Cournot competition in their product markets. The four scenarios are complete R&D competition, pure R&D cooperation, patent pool and R&D cooperation with patent pool. We find that none of the four modes dominates the other three in terms of technological improvement and firm's profits. it is dependent on some industrial characters, which are innovation technology, source of product differentiation and network effect.
