摘要
This paper shows how swirling in-cylinder flow in a Diesel engine can be simulated. Stationary simulation and measuring at different but constant valve lifts are the common practices for the time being, but have been proven not to describe the conditions in such cylinders correctly in all cases. Only transient simulation with moving valves and piston provides all information needed to evaluate the flow conditions in the cylinder. After an introduction to swirling flow in Diesel engines, swirl numbers and the respective stationary measuring methods, the results of stationary CFD-simulations are compared with experimental data. The subsequently applied functionalities of the moving and deforming meshes are described and illustrated. Finally the results of a first three dimensional transient simulation of the intake flow in a Deutz Diesel engine are presented and discussed.
