Ultra-compact flat-top optical filters using cascaded micro-rings based on submicron silicon photonic wires are reported. 300GHz-wide passband with a flat-top response with over 30dB out-of-band rejection are realized with a device footprint below 0.0007mm(2). (C) 2006 Optical Society of America
