Quantum path selection and control in high-order harmonic generation using a spatially shaped laser beam

摘要
We propose a scheme to identify and separate the contributions from the short and long electron trajectories in the high-order harmonic generation in argon atoms. The modification of the diving laser field by using a diaphragm prior to focusing is demonstrated to be an effective way of controlling the short and long path contributions in harmonic emission since different macroscopic phase-matching conditions are satisfied, respectively. We show that the short and the long path harmonic emission are separated by adjusting the laser focusing geometry and modifying the laser field. This offers a way of selectively probing and controlling the electron dynamics in intense laser fields.
