摘要
Motivation: The process of mutation is fundamental in biology, being an essential evolutionary factor that creates genetic variation. Understanding complex mechanisms by which mutations occur spontaneously or are induced by mutagens is an important goal of molecular biology. Results: We analyzed mutations induced by 8-oxoguanine (8-oxoG) using various computational techniques. Results suggested that mutagenesis due to 8-oxoG is significantly influenced by nearest neighboring bases and the context is quite evolutionarily stable. The revealed context properties might reflect intrinsic properties of interactions between 8-oxoG and DNA. Comparative analysis of spontaneous mutations suggested that a substantial fraction of spontaneous A center dot T -> C center dot T mutations is caused by 8-oxoGTP in nucleotide pools.
