摘要
The metamorphosis of the Welsh god Lleu Llawgyffes from the form of an eagle into a human shape, by virtue of the essential intervention of a sow, recalls certain scenes represented on several Celtic manufactures articles. A god we may assimilate to Lleu (notoriously the Gaulish Lugus) is represented in his anthropomorphic form (sometimes reduced to a face in a circle that could symbolize the cyclic rebirth of souls), in form of a bird of prey (generally an eagle) and in form of a pig or wild boar. For instance, analysis of the figures on the silver cup of Lyon, on the necklace of Chao de Lamas and on other objects seem to confirm that Lugus-Mercury was supposed to undergo this cyclical regeneration. This induces to hypothesize that he was also the god involved in the redemption and rebirth of souls.
