Large LNG carriers are being considered for economic transport as worldwide demand for LNG is increasing. The sloshing phenomena of internal fluid can be the main cause of internal hull damage in tanks due to severe motion response induced by waves. The increased capacity of LNG tanks for large LNG carriers is subjected to sloshing problem. To avoid sloshing impact pressure problems, it is essential to analyze the sloshing phenomena accurately in the early design stage of LNG carriers. For the purpose of comparative studies, three-dimensional short-tern sloshing analyses concerning real sea states has been carried out for No.2 tank of both conventional 138K LNGC and 245K large LNGC.
