Recent genetic and functional studies highlight the importance of IL-4/IL-13 signalling in the development of asthma and atopy. Here, Taro Shirakawa and colleagues discuss genetic variants of IL-4/IL-13 signalling, and whether they promote asthma or atopy among different ethnic groups.
