This article is an attempt towards what might be described, roughly, as an existential position in social work with older people. Beginning with the typical experiences of such work, it suggests that a worker might move in the direction of a coherent ethic with positive consequences for tasks involving older people. The implications for professional ethics and post requirements are briefly considered.
