Diagnosis and management of multiple sclerosis: Case studies

Caring for patients who have multiple sclerosis (MS) involves a combination of art and science, as comprehensive evidence to guide clinical decision making still is lacking. A discussion using case vignettes is presented to illustrate how clinicians may approach the diagnostic conundrum of patients who have possible MS and the considerations involved in using the disease-modifying agents available to treat the underlying disease process. The management of multiple symptom complaints in patients who have advanced MS also is addressed.
