It has become the hot spots of society at present to pay attention to the current situation of living space of the low-income groups, improve the environment of their living space and enable them to live and work in peace and contentment during the course of our country' s urbanization, which needs to be solved urgently. But how are the requirements of this class on their living space different from that of the other social classes? What strategies should be taken to satisfy their needs during the course of urban residential district planning and design? This paper mainly starts from such social characteristics as the level of education and employment status of the low-income groups and analyzes their needs for living space from the perspective of employment, transportation and public service facilities closely linked to living space. Based on this, a planning design thought which is geared to the needs of the low-income groups' living requirements has been put forward. "'The urban low-income groups' includes the poor who have been in the disadvantageous place in terms of the urban living consumption (farmers who have retired, lost their job, worked in an enterprise in difficulty or lost their land due to adjustment of the industrial structure and reform of the state-owned enterprises) and those people who have entered the city to hunt for a job and do not have a house (mainly refers to those who have worked in the city for two years but still don not have their own house). These groups are being rejected in the professional system of labor market dualization. Most of them do not have a fixed job and work as part-timers." 1 In the housing market dominated by occupation and income, the living resource of the low-income groups is in the weak position. At present, stratification has emerged during the course of urbanization in our country. The urban low-income groups are likely to be dissatisfied with their current living situation. Although the low-income groups can not afford a good living space environment with ideal location, high gradation and good supporting facilities due to their low income, they still have relatively high expectation of their living space and environment. However, there is a huge discrepancy between the actual situation and their expectation. Their degree of satisfaction to their living space and environment remains at a low level.
