In situ, real time monitoring of the self-assembly process of decanethiol on Au(111) in liquid phase. A scanning tunneling microscopy investigation

摘要
The self-assembly process of decanethiol (CH3(CH2)(9)SH) on Au(111) in a very dilute (ca. 0.3 mu M) heptane solution was monitored using a scanning tunneling microscope in situ in real time for the first time. The initial stripe structure formation followed by the two-dimensional island growth leading to the root 3 x root 3 structure was observed.
