摘要
Now a days the pollution control norms restricting the usage of diesel engines as they produce more harmful emissions. Rigorous research is too much essential to find and develop the alternative fuels which promise the desired properties as of diesel. The new approach of developing and utilization of dairy scum oil biodiesel will play prominent role in reduction of conventional energy consumption and their environmental pollution. Mainly treating of dairy waste scum into fuel will be the value added benefit for the milk dairies in terms of economics, solution to disposal problem, mitigation of global warming and independency on fossil fuels. The parameters of the standard diesel engines are suitable for diesel fuel. However, intensive research is required to optimize the engine parameters for biodiesel operation as they have different origin and properties. In this regard compression ratio of engine was varied in 16, 17 and 18 to evaluate the performance, combustion and emission characteristics. The study reveals that increasing compression ratio from 16 to 18 enhance the brake thermal efficiency (BTE), heat release rate (HRR), peak pressure and reduces the HC, CO emissions except NOx emission. Finally it is observed that increased compression ratio to 18 will be the optimum for DSOME-B20 (20% dairy scum oil methyl ester +80% diesel) operation.
