摘要
Objective: This study was designed to assess the biocompatibility of the coral graft processed by USM National Tissue Bank as bone substitute in rabbit models. Methods and Materials: The biocompatibility of coral graft in host was studied by means of behavioral observation, macroscopic evaluation and scanning electron microscopy examination. The evaluation was made at one, two, three and four months after the graft was implanted to the right mandible. Results: There was no significant immunological reaction noted in hosts. The macroscopic evaluation showed that the graft was well incorporated within the bony defect. The scanning electron microscopy showed good cellular growth and good soft tissue incorporation. Conclusion: This study confirmed the biocompatibility of the processed coral as a future bone replacement.
