摘要
Emerging thermochromic technologies are promising alternatives to electricity-based systems for thermal management (TM), but have limitations in efficiency and general applicability. Here, a photonic stack strategy is proposed that combines thermochromic and switching effects to synergistically enhance the adaptive control of thermal radiation. The full-wavelength infrared tunability (Delta epsilon(2.5- 25 mu m) = 0.47) of the photonic stack thermochromic device (PSTD) is 63% higher than that of the conventional device, thus achieving a high contrast between the cooling power at high (q = 470.75 W/m(2)) and low (q = 2.97 W/m(2)) temperatures. Furthermore, the robust angular insensitivity and customizable operating temperature allow fabrication of the PSTD on-demand, ensuring operability under various conditions. In addition, the strategy endows the PSTD with excellent mechanical flexibility and significant reductions in thickness (90%) and weight (83%). The related materials and methods can provide a novel radiative or mechanical enhancement paradigm for next-generation thermal, optical, and electronic devices. (C) 2022 The Author(s).
