Tire cord tensile testing is very important in reinforced rubber products. Usually capstan clamps are used due to its operation convenience. In this paper capstan clamps and panel clamps were used for the purpose of comparison and analysis of tensile testing. The results show that the cord elongation for capstan type is not true because label gage length has changed during stretching due to cord slippage on the clamp surface. The effective gage length (depending on capstan diameter and turns) is much larger than label gage length. So there is no any comparability between the tensile results obtained using capstan clamps and panel clamps. Of Course capstan clamp can be used in testing cord tensile properties only as a basis for comparing different kinds of cord properties.
