Fibromatosis (desmoid tumor) involving the orbit and cheek

Desmoid tumors are benign, noninflammatory tumors that consist of infiltrative fibrotic tissue arising in muscloaponeurotic structures. They are rare lesions, representing < 3% of all soft-tissue tumors. Although benign, they can cause significant morbidity through local invasion and have a tendency to recur following surgical excision. We report a case of a desmoid tumor involving the orbit and cheek that was too diffuse for surgical resection and was successfully treated with systemic chemotherapy.
