Evaluating the effectiveness of the Biomechanical Efficiency Quotient as a measure of gait efficiency in children with cerebral palsy

摘要
The Biomechanical Efficiency Quotient (BEQ) has been suggested as an effective measure of gait efficiency due to its correlation with oxygen consumption [1][2]. Here we report the application of a modified BEQ measure to the gait data of children of typical development and children with cerebral palsy. The results indicate a strong correlation between the modified BEQ measure and oxygen consumption and a significant ability of the BEQ to distinguish between subjects with spastic hemiplegic cerebral palsy, subjects with spastic diplegic cerebral palsy, and able-bodied peers.
