Reliability and validity of the Turkish Version of DSM-5 Anxious Distress Rating Scale for major depressive disorder

Objective: The aim of the present study was to investigate the reliability and validity of Turkish Form of DSM-5 Anxious Distress Specifier Interview for major depressive disorder. Methods: The study was conducted in Psychiatry Clinic of Yozgat City Hospital. The participants were 40 outpatients met the diagnosis of major depressive disorder and 72 healthy controls. All participants were evaluated with The Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-5 Disorders-Clininican Version (SCID-5-CV), Anxious Distress Rating Scale (ADRS), Hamilton Depression Rating Scale 17 item form (HAMD-17) and Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAMA). Internal consistency coefficient was calculated and item-total score correlation analysis was made for evaluating reliability. Exploratory factor analysis for factor validity and Pearson's correlation and partial correlation analyses for discriminant-convergent validity were conducted. Mann-Whitney U test and ROC analysis were performed so as to show how much ADRS differentiates the patient group and the control group. Results: As a result of the validity analysis, it was observed that the single-factor design of the scale was confirmed, item factor loads were between 0.664-0.817, and discriminant-convergent validity was provided. Internal consistency coefficient was 0.764, and the item-total score correlation coefficients ranged from 0.540 to 0.655. In ROC analysis area under the curve was 0.98. ADRS total score of the patients was found to be significantly higher than the controls (p<0.001). Conclusion: The analyses provided sufficient evidence that the Turkish form of the scale was valid and reliable. ADRS is thought to be a convenient and useful scale for the evaluation of anxious distress.
