摘要
A straightforward procedure for the production of dilute silica aquasols with monodisperse particles is reported. The influence of the production conditions, ion content and pH on the long term behaviour of the colloidal solutions was investigated. The particle size data, obtained by dynamic light scattering and verified by electron microscopy, was analysed and compared against the predictions of the current theories of the nanoparticles growth and stability. Kinetic aggregation was identified to be a dominant particle growth mechanism. The effects of the particle size, ion concentration and pH of the solutions on their aggregative stability support the steric mechanism of colloid stabilisation. The "gel" layer model can explain the observed anomalies in colloidal silica behaviour. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
