Non-isothermal Crystallization Kinetics of Cationic Vinyl Monomer with Quaternary Ammonium Group Grafted Polypropylene

摘要
The non-isothermal crystallization kinetics of a novel functional PP (FPP) - Methacryloxyethyltrimethyl ammonium chloride (DMC) grafted PP(PP-g-(St-co-DMC)) had been investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The Avrami analysis modified by Mandelkem and a method combined with Avrami and Ozawa equations were employed to describe successfully the non-isothermal crystallization kinetics of samples. The conclusion showed that small amounts of incorporated DMC in the sample backbone appeared to function as nucleating agents during the crystallization process, the crystallization rate of FPP (GY=4.83%) was highest in all studying samples. However, the crystallization rate of FPP (GY=6.27%, GY=7.07%) decreased. The possible explanation for all above was that the quaternary ammonium groups introduced affected the crystallization process of the FPP in two opposite directions, i.e. promoting the nucleation and hindering the transport of the chain molecules towards the growing nuclei.
