Increase of oxygen content in Si3N4 powder during ball milling using alcohol as solvent

摘要
Si3N4 powder is usually mixed with sintering additives in a ball mill using not water but alcohol as a solvent to avoid the increase of oxygen produced by chemical reaction of Si3N4 with water. However, after the ball milling for a few hundreds of hours using alcohol which dissolves effectively little amount of water, oxygen content in the mixed Si3N4 powder increases in percent order. The oxygen was thought to come from the alcohol mechanochemically disintegrated during ball-milling.
