Carpal tunnel syndrome in children

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) occurs infrequently in children and may present in a manner different from the usual adult presentation. Several groups of children demonstrate an unusual susceptibility to it, but isolated cases are possible even in the normal child. Children with carpal tunnel syndrome often have modest complaints despite dramatic physical findings. Therefore, many children are diagnosed late in the course of their nerve compression. There is typically bilateral electrophysiologic involvement, even if only one hand is primarily involved clinically This article focuses on the unique aspects of etiology, diagnosis, and treatment response to CTS in children.
