Thermal stability of porous Al2O3-SiO2 ceramics prepared by spray pyrolysis method

摘要
Porous, hollow and spherical Al2O3 and Al2O3-SiO2 particles were prepared by spray pyrolysis method to investigate the effects of microtexture control and SiO2 addition for thermal stability of aluminous porous structure. By comparison of the specific surface area(SA) with and without spray pyrolyzed gamma -Al2O3 powders, clear enhancement of SA was observed at high temperatures by spray pyrolysis. Grain growth of Pl(2)O(3) by heating was largely suppressed in the spray pyrolyzed sample because the coordination number of gamma - Al2O3 grains in the microtexture decreased by the spray pyrolysis. Addition of amorphous SiO2 was found to be effective to elevate gamma to alpha-Al2O3 phase transition temperature by avoiding direct contact of gamma -Al2O3 particles and enhanced S-A at around 1200 degrees C.
