摘要
The IRAS database has been used to identify proto-planetary nebulae candidates based upon their expected infrared excesses due to a detached circumstellar dust shell. This has permitted us to carry out a very successful multi-wavelength study (photometry, spectroscopy, imaging), which has contributed to a great advance in our understanding of these rare transitional objects.
