Effects of yttrium on sliding wear of 304 stainless steel in dilute sulphuric acid and air

摘要
Effects of an oxygen active element, yttrium, on the resistance of 304 stainless steel to corrosive siding wear in 0.1 M H2SO4 solution and to dry sliding wear in air, respectively, were investigated using a pin-on-disc wear tester. The worn surfaces and debris were examined by scanning electron microscopy. The results demonstrated that alloying with yttrium greatly improved the weal resistance of 304 stainless steel in both the corrosive and air environments. MST/4320.
