摘要
An instrument for measuring giant magnetostriction of rare-earth metals is described. Owing to the optoelectronic cell with a linear characteristic, this device makes it possible to measure small-sized (8-10 mm) samples cooled to 78 K. The accuracy of sample length measurements is 0.05 mu m, and the time required to measure the magnetostriction hysteresis loop is 1 min. Magnetostriction of dysprosium and terbium were measured with this device.
