Effect of hydrogen-induced martensite on stress corrosion cracking of type 304 stainless steel in boiling MgCl2

摘要
The effect of cold work and accompanying deformation martensite on the stress corrosion cracking (SCC) behavior of austenite stainless steels was studied. For this study, the AISI type 304 stainless steel was used. Slow strain rate tests showed that susceptibility to SCC of type 304 stainless steel in boiling MgCl2 solution increased with increasing the amount of hydrogen-induced martensites but approached gradually a saturation value after the martensites exceeded 10 vol%.
