Identification of free sterols in cerebral white matter of rats upon oxygen deficiency using gas chromatography mass spectrometry: 3 beta-hydroxysterols appearing in trace amounts

摘要
Continuing our study on lipids present in the myelin upon oxygen deficiency, we identified 3 beta-hydroxysterols appearing in trace amounts in the cerebral white matter of rats. Using a combination of gas chromatography and mass spectrometry, the isomers of cholesterol and lanosterol as well as 24-methylcholesterol and 24-methyldesmosterol were identified to be the trace components of total lipid fraction extracted from the myelin of rats.
