A Monte Carlo study of the spin-1 Blume-Emery-Griffiths phase diagrams within biquadratic exchange anisotropy

摘要
The effect of the bi-quadratic exchange coupling anisotropy on the phase diagram of the spin-1 Blume-Emery-Griffiths model on simple-cubic lattice is investigated using mean field theory (MFT) and Monte Carlo simulation (MC). It is found that the anisotropy of the bi-quadratic coupling favors the stability of the ferromagnetic phase. By decreasing the parallel and/or perpendicular bi-quadratic coupling, the ferrimagnetic and the antiquadrupolar phases broaden in contrast, the ferromagnetic and the disordered phases become narrow. The behavior of magnetization and quadrupolar moment as a function of temperature is also computed, especially in the ferrimagnetic phase. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
