Purpose: In this article, the Editor of Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools emphasizes that cutting-edge research should be a major force guiding daily clinical decisions regarding children with known or suspected communication disorders. She affirms that this issue contains such cutting-edge research. The latest research reported in this issue can serve to inform school-based SLPs in their decision-making regarding assessment and intervention for children with communication disorders, in their role as consultants to other professionals and to parents who ask critical questions, and in their capacity as leaders who seek to make positive changes that move the profession forward.
