Strain-induced nano recrystallization in AZ31 magnesium: TEM characterization

摘要
Shear bands were developed during accumulative back extrusion of Mg-3Al-12n alloy at 130 degrees C. Transmission electron microscopy was employed to study the substructural evolution prior to and during the development of macro shear bands. The results illustrated that nanograins with mean size of 100 nm were formed within the bands. The observations revealed that flow localization in magnesium is preceded by interactions of deformation twins, dislocations and micro shear bands. The substructure within the bands is evolved through development of rectangular subgrains as well as subdivision of elongated grains. These substructures transformed subsequently into equiaxed nano-sized grains through continuous recrystallization. EBSD analysis confirmed the contribution of extension twinning during shear band development. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
