摘要
This review demonstrates the complex diversity of structures and wide variety of uses of annulenic molecules. Besides traditional application as probes for ring currents, annulenes now have demonstrated potential as deoxyribolucleic acid (DNA) cleaving agents, optoelectronic materials, molecular actuators and sources for novel carbon allotropes. Such new uses, coupled with modern techniques for their synthesis, have truly heralded a renaissance in annulene chemistry.
