Structural analysis of hydrous sodium carboxylate melt by high-energy x-ray diffraction measurement

摘要
Structure of hydrous sodium carboxylate melts was investigated by high-energy X-ray diffraction (HEXRD) measurement at BL04B2 beamline in SPring-8. The accuracy of the HEXRD measurements was verified by a comparison with the laboratory X-ray diffraction (XRD) data. Sodium acetate and sodium propionate showed a peak in low Q region (Q<1Angstrom(-1),Q = 4pisin theta/lambda, where theta and lambda are scattering angle and wave length, respectively.). It shows an evidence of intermediate-range structure in the melts. The peak position depends on the number of carbon atom in the alkyl group and not on the water content of the melt. The detailed intermediate-range structure is discussed from variation of the peak position with the carbon number of the alkyl group.
