Effects of pre-strain on transformation temperatures of NiTi shape memory alloy

In this study, the effects of pre-strain on the transformation temperature of a NiTi Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) were demonstrated by showing the relations of pre-strain vs. transformation temperatures. Two different initial phases, i.e. R-phase and TM before prestrain, were studied. Tests confirmed that the temperature vs. heat flow relations in the pre-strained and zero-prestrained cases are the same as they are all from austenite. The results are significantly different from that of Fe-Mn-Si-Cr-Ni-Co SMA reported previously.
