The efficacy of antidepressants in the prophylaxis of migraine and chronic tension-type headache a metaanalysis

Antidepressants are among the most often used drugs in the prophylaxis of migraine and chronic tension-type headache. In this review, all double-blind and placebo controlled trials performed on these headache diagnoses are analysed. For both migraine and chronic tension-type headache, on efficacy of tricyclic antidepressants and of selective serotonin-reuptake-inhibitors could be shown in the majority of trials. However, the metaonalyis of all data suggests that tricyclic antidepressants ore more consistently effective.
