摘要
Rush hour traffic is a common daily occurrence in the USA. Highway and bridge construction further aggravates the situation. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and other agencies are looking for ways to expedite construction. The Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) initiative is the result of this. Reduced disruption to traffic, enhanced safety, better quality control, and reduced environmental issues, are some of the advantages of ABC. In precast concrete construction, much of the substructure fabrication can be done in an off-site plant. The precast substructure cost will be reduced due to the efficiency of mass production. With the high level of quality control attainable, high strength concrete can be used. The higher strength concrete allows the use of hollow sections. That results in material savings, lower hauling and erection weights, and decreased foundation costs. In this paper, the design and construction of post-tensioned segmental cantilever piers, two column bents, straddle bents, and wall piers are presented.
