In this paper, the interactive internet multimedia attempts to make use of digital video clips, flashes, or other media of appropriate Science, such as speed of ice melting and temperature. The distance learning environment permits small group interactions with the Predict-observe-explain (POE) tasks, giving students control of the demonstrations and allowing the teacher more time to interact with students. These collaborative small groups encourage the social interactions and personal reflections which are essential for peer learning. Finally, the internet environment supports the sequencing and presentation of the POE tasks. For example, the program discussed in this paper does not allow the students to view the media of a demonstration (the observation phase) until their predictions and reasons are completed. The distance learning program also automatically and efficiently places students' written responses into a text file for further analysis.
