摘要
This paper proposes an analysis of the Romanian cereal output and trade after the accession to the European Union. The cereal production is an important sector of domestic agriculture and represents a traditional activity for Romanian farmers as well. The cereals outputs harvested on the national territory have made important progress in these past years, concretized in the growth of quantities exported especially to the extra-EU economic space and in enabling the exporters to earn substantial revenues. The record outputs of cereal production obtained in the past years have led to a positive economic growth for Romanian economy, which exhibits one of the highest GDP growth rates in the European Union. Although there has been an increase in the quantity of agricultural products exported, this was done mainly under the form of unprocessed vegetal produce, having a lower price compared to the finished products. Romania depends on the fluctuations of grain prices on the international market, and consequently it is necessary to construct a national strategy to ensure the integrated development of the domestic food industry and to reduce the dependence on food imports. The results obtained from the research are useful for academics, for the Romanian companies and for the national administration in view of reducing Romania's dependency of external food markets.
