Wavelets are the central idea of a broad framework for thinking about, displaying, and analyzing data. These localized basis functions provide flexible and efficient methods for analysis of time series and image data - including noise removal, characterization of stochastic behavior, depiction of power spectrum time-variations, and data compression.
