摘要
A technique for characterizing pulp suspensions by using freeze drying and X-ray-computed tomography has been developed. The raw data from the tomography has been processed into images that show local densities and concentrations. These images then have been subjected to two image analysis tools, which give spatial information, such as floc size. Floe size was found to increase with concentration in softwood pulp but not in hardwood pulp. Individual flocs were identified and these were found to be non-spherical with internal concentration variations. The freeze drying of the fibre suspension gave significantly improved contrast compared to earlier work.
