The Generational Gap and the Historical Memory of the Digital Generation

The article is devoted to the problem of features of the historical memory of a generation, which is determined by a number of factors. This is, first of all, the definition of a generation in its sociological sense, which is associated not so much with age characteristics, but with social and ideological moments. Second, it is assumed that the concept of generation combines historical continuity and discontinuity, as opposed to previous age and social groups. The purpose of the research is to identify the main characteristics of historical memory and, more broadly, the attitude to the past, present and future of the younger generation associated with digitalization. In methodological terms, the research is based on a combination of analytical and qualitative sociological methods (in-depth interviews). This comprehensive methodology allowed us to confirm the hypothesis of polymorphism of the collective historical memory of the digital generation, its indirect formation and the important role of personal "family" history in the process of recording historical events. An important, but not fully realized factor in the process of commenting on the digital generation is its natural web environment, which forms both a new type of personality and a new head start of communication. In this case, we are faced with the process of the birth of a new type of collective memory - "cloud".
