摘要
Detectors optimised for use in the high radiation environment of the LHC have been designed, fabricated and evaluated within the ATLAS collaboration. These detectors are based on n-strip read-out and are capable of operating partially depleted after type inversion through bulk damage. This significantly enhances the prospects for survival since the full depletion voltage required climbs as the devices are further irradiated, A number of design issues are discussed in the paper and the measured electrical properties of these detectors are presented. The current status of the silicon detector programme within ATLAS is also briefly outlined.
