摘要：

A geochemical and oceanographic survey was undertaken to determine the vulnerability of both the inshore and nearshore environments to contamination arising from the urban and industrial expansion of Mombassa. The results surprisingly show little evidence of anthropogenic inputs despite the magnitude of annual industrial and domestic discharges known to be made in the area. This finding is attributed to specific physical, hydrodynamic and biogeochemical attributes which promote effective contaminant dispersal and/or degradation.
