Excited, nonyrast states in Yb-162 were populated through beta(+)/epsilon decay and studied through off-beam, beta-delayed gamma-ray spectroscopy at the Yale moving tape collector. New coincidence data provided evidence for a substantial revision of the previous level scheme and the elimination of a previously reported first excited 0(+) state. The revised level scheme of Yb-162 is compared to the predictions of the X(5) critical point symmetry. Good agreement is obtained for most energies while significant discrepancies exist with the current values of intraband B(E2) values.
